Kletsk, an ancient town with a rich history dating back to the eleventh century, was originally founded by the Dregovichs. The town's original fort and tribal center were built by them. Kletsk was then ruled by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the fourteenth century and later became part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The town has been witness to several battles and wars, including the Battle of Kleck in 1506, where Michail Glitski defeated Tartar armies and saved the town from being pillaged. Later, the Radziwils magnate family took over the town and started attracting Jewish settlers to the area. In 1586, Kletsk became the capital of Radziwil's ordynacja, and the town gradually became a regional center of commerce. The town also became a notable center of Calvinism, thanks to the patronage of the Radziwils family. Throughout the nineteenth century, Kletsk was repeatedly destroyed by fire, and it faced annexation by different powers. During World War II, the town was occupied by Nazi Germany, and a large massacre of local Jews took place in October 1941. After the war, the town became a part of the Belorussian SSR and, since 1991, has been a part of Belarus. Today, Kletsk is a town with a vibrant history and numerous historical landmarks, including the ruins of the Radziwils' castle, which dates back to the fifteenth century. Visitors can also see the site of the former Jewish ghetto and pay their respects at the Jewish cemetery.
